vCOY is the virtual youth conference of YOUNGO and open to all people below the age of 35 who are interested in making their voices heard at the UNFCCC climate processes. vCOY is integrated in YOUNGO’s mandate and around the year policy processes towards the UN and especially UNFCCC.
Due to the pandemic, meaningful virtual youth engagement is even more important. Additionally, despite many being keen to organize youth summits and events, most interested youth have never gotten a chance to make their voices seriously heard in the national or international climate debates or the UN negotiating tables. Being able to engage is a privilege and additionally we have been observing a sharp increase of tokenism and youth washing.
Hence YOUNGO is organizing the first ever virtual Conference of Youth (vCOY) to achieve even more inclusivity and give barrier free accessibility to the vulnerable, marginalized, disabled and indigenouse as well as any until now left behind communities. To truly leave no youth behind, also during pandemics such as the COVID-19 crisis, in the upcoming crucial climate negotiations, we have to reinvent ourselves and come up with new innovative solutions to make ourselves seriously heard.
The ultimate goal of vCOY Part-1 will be to have an inclusive Policy Outcome Document that can be fed into COY16.
Who can apply?
The application is open to all Youth under the age of 35. We especially encourage those at the beginning of their journey with UNFCCC Negotiation Processes and climate action. We will provide all the necessary introduction into the basics and not-so-basics about the issue at hand. Do not let the lack of experience discourage you from having your voice added to the YOUNGO Policy Outcome Document which defines and influences the Climate and Environmental Policies that affects us and our future generations significantly. This is your chance to come forward and contribute for the wellbeing and resilience of your local and national communities.
